Question for Doctor Who fans

This may seem silly (it IS just a TV show), but I have a question.  We want to start watching Torchwood, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves or miss anything if the shows overlap.  (Do they overlap?  I don’t even know.  Don’t answer that.)  We’re in the middle of season 3 of Doctor Who.  We know what Torchwood is, sort of.  When do we start watching Torchwood the show?  (The one that started in 2006, of course, not this year’s.)  Can we start now?  Do we need to stay even, season by season, alternating episodes or does it really not matter?

There is at least one crossover-ish episode that I can remember, which I think happens in season 3 of Dr. Who. I think season 3 is when Torchwood started, so you should watch season 3 of Dr. Who while watching season 1 of Torchwood. I also think you should finish season 2 of Torchwood before finishing season 4 of Dr. Who, because I think there are spoilers for Torchwood in the finale of Dr. Who. There’s also the Sarah Jane Adventures, but honestly the actress who plays her (who is the same actress who played the same roles as a companion to the doctor in the old series) bugs me, and we never watched it.

I haven’t gotten to watch any of season 4 of Torchwood, and seasons 1 and 2 were pretty good, but season 3, which is more like a mini-series, was great.

Very helpful. Thank you. I didn’t realize the Sarah Jane Adventures were recent. I guess I could have looked at the year when I looked her up on IMDB after that one episode in season 2. Guess I didn’t care that much, either. One was enough.
