A house around the corner from us has the most beautiful yard. They seem to put a lot of time into it. I’ll admire from afar (or from the sidewalk), but I really want to know what they do throughout the year.

Those look like bulbs and perennials. You have to stay awhile for that. But if you want instant color and beauty, go to Lowe’s (or another nursery) and tell them you want to plant annuals. You probably don’t have to worry too much about keeping them watered there. 🙂
